| On the 16th. and 17th. of June, 2004 we spoke to a
representative of the office of Ombudsman for Andalucía who made it very
clear that there is a distinction between the adoption process and nationality:
in terms of the former there is no problem but in terms of the latter we will
have to find a resolution with our own countries, either Ireland or Great
Britain. This was our written response to these conversations. Dear Sir/Madam. We are writing firstly to thank you for your interest and the information you gave by telephone on the 16th. and 17th. of June, 2004 and secondly to reiterate the following points: 1. On more than one occasion we directly asked the relevant local authorities if our nationality was going to cause problems and we were clearly told that it wouldn't. Even with the previous couple in Colombia unable to bring their adoptive children to Spain the authorities did not inform us of the problems we were going to have: it was through our adoption agency that we were finally notified. 2. We have documents from the corresponding local authorities accepting the responsibility for following the welfare of our future adopted children including aiding in whatever way possible their acquisition of Spanish nationality. 3. We have the required authorisation by the Spanish Police for the entry of our future adopted children into Spain. 4. Although we have asked for confirmation and a description in writing of the situation and problem neither the local Government authorities who have given us permission to adopt, the Spanish Foreign Ministry, or the Spanish Ministry for Social Services have replied. We are aware that we are dealing with problems which had not been foreseen but we feel that with a little more good will by the Spanish authorities a solution not only long term but also short term for our particular case could be found.
